New Lone Writer SIG Website Now Live
Changes to the Website are Coming
New Email List Now Available
The STC Lone Writer SIG’s venerable email list, stclwrsig-l, was retired earlier this week. It is being replaced by a new email list, lonewriter-discuss. All current members of the SIG have been subscribed to this list and should have received an introductory email from SIG Manager Ed Marshall. If you didn’t receive this email, check your junk email folder. If it’s not there, contact us for assistance.
SIG Activities at the 2013 Summit
The following is information on SIG activities at the 2013 Technical Communication Summit in Atlanta from 5 to 8 May 2013. If you would like more information about any of these events or are interested in volunteering, contact our SIG manager, Ed Marshall.
Community Reception
Monday 6 May
6:00 to 7:00 PM (The community reception is held after the annual business meeting, which is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:00 PM but often runs into overtime.)
The community reception is essentially a long row of tables. People stop at any SIG tables of interest and chat a few minutes or longer
about what the SIG does, how it works, benefits, and so on. The Lone Writer SIG will have an updated promo sheet listing SIG activities and resources. The Lone Writer SIG will share a table with the Consulting and Independent Contracting SIG. We face many of the same issues and have a fair amount of crossover membership.
SIG Business Meeting
Tuesday 7 May
11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Hanover AB Room
It’s a low-key meeting to talk about how the SIG is working, any issues, questions, and so on. Feel free to bring your lunch/drinks. Food is not provided.
Lone Writer SIG Off-Site Dinner (Optional, if we get enough volunteers)
We used to have an informal get-together at a local restaurant of interested SIG members, usually organized by local members of the SIG. Each person is responsible for their tab. No set agenda; just an evening out to get to know each other. We’ve found it works best if it’s a place that can handle groups of 15 to 20 people, isn’t overly loud so we can talk, and reasonably priced.
Honors Banquet
Note: This is a very formal affair: gowns and tuxedos are standard attire. You can certainly get by with a nice dress/business suit for women, coat and tie for men. Although the rest of the Summit is very informal (business casual), you will probably feel out of place at the banquet dressed business casual.

Couldn’t Attend the Summit? Check out Summit@aClick
The 2012 Technical Communication Summit was held from 20 to 23 May 2012 in Rosemont, Illinois. If you couldn’t attend the summit, you still have an opportunity to benefit from the education sessions presented there through SummitAtaClick.
SummitAtaClick is an online library of education sessions recorded at the summit. Audio and PowerPoint components are synchronized, so it’s as if you’re attending the session in person.
SummitAtaClick will be available six to eight weeks after the event, but you can pre-order it now and get a special rate of $149 US for members or $249 US for non-members. (After 13 July, the price increases to $249 US for members and $499 US for non-members.)
For more information, see the STC website.
